Family Travel Ideas for 2019
January is my favorite month! I love looking at the year ahead and sketching out travel. How are school breaks timed? What’s on my wish list? Where do the kids want to go? I’m still figuring out our 2019. Assuming that you’re doing the same, I wrote up my top ten family travel ideas for Travelocity based on my travels the past year. I’ll list the first three below. The entire post is HERE, and linked at the end as well.
And a reminder: go get your passports right now and check the expiration dates! If any expire in 2019 or even the first half of 2020, put a reminder in your phone now of when you need to renew them. A lot of countries require six months’ validity, so a good rule of thumb is to renew them 7-8 months before the expiration dates, or even earlier if you have travel planned anytime around then.
Singapore
Yes, you’ve seen Singapore recently in Crazy Rich Asians. Now go see Singapore for yourself! We visited twice last year, and it continues to by my son’s favorite city in the world. Each neighborhood is unique – Little India, Chinatown, the Arab Quarter to name a few – but all have amazing food. And the city/country is largely walkable, even with the heat and humidity. If you’re into shopping, you may want to stay along Orchard Road. We love the Marina area though, and the Fullerton Hotel and the Fullerton Bay Hotel.
My post on Singapore is here.
Wisconsin
We loved Wisconsin this past summer, and it’s easy to reach from virtually anywhere in the US. We had dinner on a farm, visited lighthouses, played mini-golf, went to the beach, ate as much frozen custard and cheese curds as we could, and loved the relaxed vibe and everything else that there is to do. We’re hoping to return this year and see a different portion of the state.
My post on Milwaukee is here and Door County is here.
Trentino, Italy
In a week in Trentino I don’t think we saw any other Americans. That’s understandable, given all of the higher-profile Italian cities, but they’re missing out! We loved the Dolomites, with absolutely stunning mountains and valleys, amazing food, and a LOT to do. Make Trentino your Italian destination this year. And have a meal at Miola in Predazzo for us while you’re there. One of our new favorite restaurants anywhere!
My post on Val di Fassa is here and Val di Fiemme is here.

Hi Eric! If you decide to come back to Wisconsin (especially the Madison area), please reach out and I would be happy to give you some ideas of fun things to do with kids here! I just started following your blog, and love it! My husband and I love to travel with our kids (5 and 3) and you have given us even more ideas of places to go! Thanks!

Thank you Jessica! We really enjoyed Wisconsin last year and would love to return – hopefully next summer.
