Instagram can be frustrating, with ever-changing algorithms and engagement, but I still love it for pure travel inspiration. I have three previous posts with my favorite accounts:
- Best Instagram Travel Accounts 2015
- Best Instagram Travel Accounts 2016
- Best Instagram Accounts for Family Travel Inspiration 2016
I still follow and recommend every account that I highlighted in those posts. But enough accounts have caught my eye in the past year that it seems like a good time for a new list of favorites.
What I look for has remained consistent. I like accounts that show people in the photos, without being personality-driven – they’re simply more inspirational from a travel perspective. I also like accounts that use their real names. There are too many generic-sounding accounts like “A Traveling Couple” or “Around the World Family” that don’t tell me anything about the people behind the account. Be proud of your content! Also, I judge a gallery by its least-inpsirational photos. If you’re mixing in photos of Starbucks cups, watch and detergent product placements and quotes, that’s fine, but that account probably isn’t inspiring me to travel to new places.
These are the 25 accounts that I’m loving right now. Did I miss one? Please let me know in the comments!
Excellent travel photography, and when she places herself in her photos to add perspective/life, it’s never about her.
One of my favorite accounts – I’m surprised I haven’t included them before. I’ve been loving all of their Africa photos. What a travel account should be!
I mentioned above that I don’t find personality-driven accounts inspirational. And I don’t – it’s really easy to recreate the same shots of the middle table at Giraffe Manor, or the riad pool in Marrakech, or the cave pool in Santorini, and hundreds of bloggers do it every year. It’s copying, and it’s not inspiring. Gloria is different though. While she’s in almost all of her photos, she’s the most alive person I’ve ever met, and her account is about the beauty in the world, and the joy of travel and discovery of new places. Look through her photos and tell me that you don’t want to find somewhere beautiful and just enjoy it!
Hello from country #53 and my new home for the next two months – Bali, Indonesia! The first half of this year has flown by like crazy, and it took me through 8 new countries, 4 visas, and now into my 3rd passport. I'm excited to be back in the continent of Asia, which I hadn't been since 2015, and amongst such warm and welcoming Balinese people. Though I haven't read nor watched "Eat, Pray, Love" if you drop a corny reference it will likely put me off even more 🙃 There are so many clichés around travel, but for me, it's truly transformative. The journey is as deep as you make it, and beyond shallow sentiments, blanketed babbles, and privileged perspectives, there is truly so much to gain when you put yourself out there for the universe to meet you halfway. I love who I've become through what I learn and who I speak to, because someone else had a whole life's worth of experiences, perspective, and education that I didn't, and I'm obsessed with swapping stories and digesting their truths. Every person has a lesson to teach and a story to share. And that includes you. But why Bali? Why now? I'm here working on a couple personal projects (one which may or may not include inviting some of you guys down here with me). As well as catching up on 250GB of photos, videos, and stories from my travels around Africa. I'll do my best to show as much beauty and culture of Bali as I can, but remember, I'm here for me, not you 🙃 Yes, I need a "vacation from my vacation" because the hustle hat hasn't come off since January 1st. I'll be staying in Ubud and Canggu to start, but welcome your suggestions for other areas. In my noob days as a travel blogger, I said YES to every offer, because the busier I was, the better, right? WRONG. I've said NO more times than YES this year, and the things I'm saying YES to are pretty congruent with my goals and growth: YES to challenges. YES to reinvention. YES to asking for help. YES to taking breaks. YES to developing new skills. YES to knowing my worth. YES to being unavailable. YES to my dreams. YES to my desires. YES to me. ❤🇮🇩 P.S. Check my IG stories for a tour of my home!
Ferry is the GM of Sandals Barbados, so he has cool job in a gorgeous location. He’s also an excellent photographer, capturing the natural beauty of Barbados in creative ways. I’ve never been to Barbados but he makes me want to visit.
I’ve met up with Hannah and Adam in Sri Lanka and Orlando the past year, and I love following them. Always great travel photography, with excellent water and drone shots.
Head straight to David’s gallery and check out the overall feel – the colors and the unique-perspective shots will immediately jump out at you. Eclectic but always enjoyable photography.
Street photography is still the most challenging (and most rewarding) type of photography for me. It exposes all of my weaknesses. It forces me to be patient and reminds me that my job is to make images, not just take them. I still get bashful when I'm shooting in the street. I don't want to draw attention to myself or be rude and stick my camera in someone's face without their knowledge or permission. But it's a paradox, because to get great street shots you have to get really close to your subject. This thought process always leads me back to the same conclusion. As Henri Cartier-Bresson said: "The moment! Once you miss it, it is gone forever." All of my best street photos come the moment I stop worrying about what my subject might say or do. It's a funny conundrum… the only way to find out if the shot went in is to make it. Because not knowing if you made it means you missed! Bottom line, you either seize the moment or you don't. Stop hesitating and seize it, hey?
I love Italy, and I love Sara’s take on Italy!
Morning routine. I love how I still see tons of people buying and reading actual, printed newspapers in Rome, something that seems to be a dying tradition in so many other cities. I especially enjoy watching the people who seem to have mastered the art of walking and reading at the same time – without colliding with anything!
Lee is the most well-traveled person I know, and everywhere he goes he takes incredible photographs. Always great composition, contrast, color and exposure.
I love Jade’s photos, and how she successfully combines great photography with family travel.
I don't know about you but I have an ever growing list of places I want to visit someday. High on my America bucket list (yes, I have a list for each continent/country, obviously 😂) was Mount Rushmore. In case you didn't know, because I didn't, the faces of President Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, and Roosevelt are 60 feet tall and took about 14 years to complete. The monument has several ways to view the granite sculptures – viewing platforms, hiking trails and even soaring overhead via Helicopter. We are currently visiting @visitrapidcity for a long weekend and the short drive to Mt Rushmore was such an awesome way to start out our trip. Have you been?! Would love to know your tips or must visit places near and in Rapid City!
I met Oksana and Max earlier this year in New York and started following them, and this quickly became one of my favorite accounts. Perfect travel photography that includes themselves just enough, plus locals and, from time to time, cows.
Piper is a professional photographer who spends most of the year in Africa, and her photos are amazing and truly inspirational. I traveled around India with her on a photo trip, and chose our African safari company and destinations per her recommendations – even running into her in both Tanzania and Kenya. I highly recommend traveling with her on one of her photo expeditions, but in the meantime follow her and dream of Africa!
There are a lot of accounts that I follow that combine great photography, lifestyle and family travel, but most skew more to lifestyle or family. Corinne combines everything perfectly and makes me want to travel. There are so many of her photos that I absolutely love!
The back porch of an airstream whose back side is made entirely of glass; on a remote bluff in Malibu, overlooking the Pacific. One of my favorite traveling couples – they have fun and travel deeper wherever they go. I’m enjoying following their current US-based adventures.
I met Greg camping in California earlier this year and I love his style. Great city shots, and his landscape photos really pull you in.
If I could only pick one account to follow, it would be Candace’s. She brings destinations alive through sketching. She makes me want to travel, and makes me wish that I could draw!
Happy Friday, friends! Well I nearly made it the whole week in Chile sticking to my new style of sketching and leaving lots of white space–until I made it to poet Pablo Neruda's beautiful home in Isla Negra yesterday and discovered a scene I couldn't help but capture as fully as possible 😍 • This little wooden cabin is set just below Neruda's house, and several staff members told me it was his favorite place to write–which I could oh-so-easily imagine why! I was completely enchanted by the stone pathway leading down to the cabin, the gorgeous greenery that hid it along the cliff, and the expanse of the Pacific stretching out in front of it 🌅 • I can't wait to write more about my time in Isla Negra on the blog soon, but for now, I just have to share my favorite sketch from this trip with you! ❤️
A perfect mix of inspiring domestic and international travel, family, landscapes and details, and always excellent photography.
Stunning photography in stunning locations, and one of my favorite human beings on the planet. She also leads photo tours if you want to see/photograph some of the same places with an expert.
Icefields Parkway in the Canadian Rockies is full of photo worthy spots, but some just stand out more than the others. Sunwapta Falls is one of them. – – – – – – – #landscapelover #landscape_captures #pixel_ig #landscape_hunter #landscape_lovers #landscapecaptures #landscapestyles_gf #landscapeporn #landscapephotomag #ig_landscape #trapping_tones #ig_masterpiece #ig_podium #splendid_earth #gramslayers #agameoftones #discoverearth #exploretheglobe #places_wow #earthfocus #ourplanetdaily #earthofficial #awesome_earthpix #nature_perfection #igphoto #igersoftheday #igersworldwide #ig_captures #igs_photos #discoverglobe
The second largest account that I’m including on this list, but absolute perfection in terms of photography, locations, adventure and people. His fiancé is awesome too!
Consistently excellent people photography that draws me in and makes me want to be in the middle of her scenes. Nothing posed, nothing crafted – she has an amazing eye.
Powerful, atmospheric photos of his travels around the world.
Sab’s photos are always fun and colorful and she includes the people she meets. She does amazingly cool things with drones too.
So yesterday I announced that I'll be traveling to 3 countries next month. I already revealed that I'm going to the Philippines. But what's the other 2 places? One of them will be where this picture was taken. And I really mean RIGHT THERE! For a week I'll be heading to Bali for an Ayurvedic Wellness Retreat at @oneworldayurveda in Ubud. The place is located right by the world famous rice terraces in Tegallalang! I can't wait to wake up to this view every morning! After 2 months in Bangkok it's time to connect with nature again…. What's your plans for next months? If you happen to be in the Philippines or #Bali next month, say hi! #yoga #retreat #balibible #wonderfulindonesia #thebaliguru #travel #bbctravel #lpfanphoto #dametraveler #beautifuldestinations #beachesnresorts #awesomepics
Usually I highlight personal accounts, but AFAR’s feed is truly inspiring – great photos that stay true to AFAR’s philosophy of Traveling Deeper. I love discovering new accounts to follow through the photos that they select.
Another traveling couple that’s fun to follow, with perfect photography. They’re usually in rural/remote places so not many people around – instead they insert themselves just enough to put the landscapes nicely in perspective.
Lola has incredible travel photography that always puts you in the middle of the scene. She splits her photos and posts for her gallery, not for your standard scrolling IG newsfeed. Usually it annoys me when people do that, but she’s consistent with it and does it so well that I wanted to include her. Head to her gallery and you’ll see what I mean.
I’m including my account as #25! Follow along!
And per my earlier note, if I missed you and you want me to take a look at your account, just comment below. Roughly 60 accounts barely missed inclusion. When I looked through their galleries, they were eliminated because they had too few photos in their galleries (less than 100), or hadn’t posted in a few months, or had distracting watermarks, or didn’t include people in any of their photos other than themselves (travel is about people!), or are a better fit with my next Family Travel roundup post.
