A Trip Around the World with Kids
Two years ago I took a trip around the world in two weeks with my 10-year-old daughter, and this year I did the same with my 10-year-old son – although he and I stretched the trip to 18 days. In both of these world travel cases, my kids chose our destinations and did most of the planning themselves. I simply booked what they wanted and then had an amazing time! The itinerary for the trip around the world with my daughter was LA-Orlando-Paris-Dubai-Oman-Borobudur-Bali-Sydney-LA. My son and I traveled LA-Copenhagen-Greenland-Copenhagen-Seychelles-Abu Dhabi-Mumbai-Singapore-LA.
My posts on our two trips are at:
- Around the World in Two Weeks (Planned by a 10-Year-Old)
- Around the World (Again!) with a 10-Year-Old!
In these world travel posts, I go into detail on each destination and talk a little bit about the logistics, but they aren’t meant to be step-by-step guides on planning a trip around the world. So I wrote a post for Travelocity on everything that went into our trip around the world plans, including choosing destinations, dates, and direction, then finding flights and activities, and finally choosing a theme and packing. I’d love to inspire others to go on a similarly crazy trip around the world! If that’s you, here’s your How To guide!

I always have fun writing for Travelocity, but writing about world travel was particularly fun. Enjoy! And please come back here and let me know what destinations you would include in a 2-3 week trip around the world!
Have you planned a trip around the world with your family? Let me know about your experiences below!

What a fantastic idea! Hmmm, just a few more months to do something like this with my 10yo. Doesn’t seem like a long enough time for all of those destinations though.

Absolutely – take more time! I think two weeks is the bare minimum. It gets more relaxed at 2.5 weeks or, of course, longer.

This looks fantastic. It’s so cute to have your 10-year old children choose the countries to go for your trip! I can already foresee your children to do the same in the future. And I can’t also wait to try this when I have a child soon. Definitely pinning this for future purposes. Thank you so much, Eric. Please do continue to inspire others with these kinds of tips.

Thank you so much Elizabeth!

Do you know the show Amazing Hotels? I would like to an RTW trip based on that series.
Eric Stoen says
Absolutely! We’ve been to three of the hotels they’ve featured already, and had Schloss Elmau booked in 2020 and 2021 and had to cancel both stays.
