South America
I’ve been to South America a LOT the past few years – for family trips, for one-on-one trips with my kids, for conferences, and with friends. It’s simply easy. From the US there’s virtually no jet lag, and you can get to a lot of South American destinations in one day (although some cities farther south require an overnight flight). Plus it’s the jumping off point for Antarctica – head to Antarctica, and see Argentina as a bonus!
Travelocity saw my recent trips, and asked me to write about why others should head to the world’s fourth largest continent. My post is HERE. I’ll list the first reason below, and you can see the rest over at Travelocity.
As to where to go in South America, my favorite destinations have been Brazil, Ecuador and Chile. And all three are very kid-friendly.
The Islands
We absolutely loved both Easter Island and the Galapagos. Easter Island was about the iconic Moai statues of course, but it also has a Polynesian feel that makes it a great destination, even without the Moai. And the Galapagos have animals – so many animals! Every island in the Galapagos is different, from volcanic lava to beaches to marshes, and each has unique species. Of course South America has amazing mainland destinations, but be sure to fly out to the islands too.
