Family Travel (for 2018)
As you probably know, I write about family travel for Travelocity every month. Heading into 2018, they asked me for my family travel recommendations this year. Happy to oblige!
I short-listed roughly 25 destinations – places that we’ve traveled to recently and loved, places that are changing that you shouldn’t want too much longer to see, and places with specific events taking place in 2018 – and then cut my list down to the final ten. I’ll post my top two here. Please click through to the Travelocity post for the entire list.
Chile
We’ve traveled to Chile several times now, flying out to Easter Island, exploring Patagonia and the southern tip of the country, and playing in the Atacama Desert up north. We loved all of our family travel adventures! And it’s particularly attractive for school breaks in the US, since winter here is summer there, and there’s not much of a time difference.
Tokyo
Not a surprise that we loved Tokyo! I was actually privileged to travel there twice at the end of 2017, once with kids and once without. The thing that surprised me most was how easy it was to explore. Plus it’s easy and inexpensive to get there from the US – especially from the west coast. Put Japan on your family travel list, and explore it all! But don’t shortchange Tokyo itself. It takes a good week there just to get through the highlights.
